Hey guys! Lately I've been considering a follow along since I'm wanting to add another income stream hopefully with Native. I've had success in the past, but never got the "knack" of it, maybe it was lucky but I couldn't repeat that success. I also just noticed the Halloween contest and it gave me the nudge to do this FA. Thanks @Luke !

Above all else, I am hoping to learn the ins and outs of this traffic source, because the upside is huge and the lifespan can be years once mastered. (I still see the same stuff running that was years ago!)

Thanks a lot to Varun for his follow alongs, tips and advice. I'm sure you can all agree he really shares some golden nuggets in his threads which is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, here's how my campaigns look as of now....

And this month so far (only the 3rd Oct)

As you can see.. I'm already starting to get some traction and slowly bringing the ROI down. I'm being patient, not touching it too much and letting it gather data, using TheOptimizer to block bad widgets, same rules as Varun in his FA here.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Let's get this green and scale it! πŸš€

Galaksion Contest
Also, here's some points on how I prepared before launching this campaign:

1. I bought Adplexity and spent a lot of time researching what works, looking for landers, creatives and building up swipe files per niche/offer.
Once I had seen which offers were being used the most I chose one funnel.

2. I remember a tip from Mad Society from a while back, to run 1 1 1, so that being 1 creative, 1 lander, 1 offer.
It might not be the best approach, but if something is running a while and seems like it works, this keeps variables low whilst blacklisting, and also keeps variables low so you can see if the offer converts. (I like to keep variables low on smaller budgets.. this one being $100/day)
Once it started to convert I had the incentive to start testing other parts of the funnel.

3. Up to now, I've been testing different creatives and different landers (not at the same time though) to reduce the variables, especially on low daily spends. Finding better creatives and landers is definitely improving the ROI.

A lot of time has been spent waiting for approvals, denials etc

A nice positive progression. Looking forward to seeing you get this green!

Great campaign and very excited to see the big improvement in the ROI.

Can you share how exactly do you test creatives and landers? Which metric do you use to benchmark?

I asked my AM for best converting hours, and best converting states/regions. Then I just took what worked, didn't change anything or touch any settings at all. Because my first goal was to find a converting offer, which then I did.

In the beginning it's hard to think about any benchmarks or %'s since RON has a ton of bad widgets, so I just let it run a while and blacklisted aggressively using theoptimzer with the rules Varun uses in his Follow Along :)

Now I seem to have blocked a lot with automatic rules, I look for lander ctr from sites that gave me conversions to judge it, rather than RON.

Unfortunately so far, I have around 20 widgets each with 1 conversion :ROFLMAO: I'd prefer to see more on any widget, but this will come in time I'm sure!

Creatives, just the usual 1x payout for now until I get more experience with everything!

What does RON stand for?

I couldn't find it in the affiliate marketing glossary.

Good luck with your campaign! (y)

It's Run Of Network. Basically no blacklists or whitelists :)
Thanks! :)

I found this when I googled run of network:

In run-of-network advertising, advertisers generally give up say over placement in return for low rates and broad reach.

So, in effect selecting RON gives you a broader reach and cheaper traffic, but, your traffic is not as good for conversions.

Is this always the best way to start a campaign in the testing phase?

Just trying to rap my head around it.

Basically you just receive traffic from all of the widgets on the network. So there will be bots, bad widgets and good widgets. Since I have no data, no whitelists or anything then you start with RON and start to find good widgets (hopefully) and blocking the bad ones.

Wherever you launch a campaign when you haven't ran before, you'll have to go RON, since you have no data. Unless a rep gives you a whitelist, but they don't always work well anyway.

Update #1
I decided to test out multiple geos in the same campaign to make it possible to bid less, I've decided to stop this after 1.5x payout ($120)..

Why?
Because I feel like it's messy, yes clicks are cheaper, but I'm not helping myself find some good widgets, which is a goal I am aiming for.
Plus, with the cheaper clicks, it's not like they convert like the other "normal" campaigns, since the quality seems better.

I will retest in future though for sure, and right now not be distracted from gathering data, blacklisting and testing parts of the funnel.

Another note to make, my daily budgets are $100 per campaign. If they get conversions ($80) I increase the budget to $150. If it gets 2, I increase to $250 and so on...

Got it...

This is a big lesson for me. I tested and tweaked too much and ruined my campaign. Even though I know more work doesn't mean more result, it can be hard to change that mindset.

@Varun What do you think about the 1-1-1 approach? i.e. 1 creative, 1 lander, 1 offer.

Yeah you need to gather data without touching stuff otherwise it becomes a big mess :)
When stuff clearly doesn't work, change it or stop it of course. But if you want to split test, leave it alone haha

@Varun What do you think about the 1-1-1 approach? i.e. 1 creative, 1 lander, 1 offer.

The only reason I did that, was to find out if the offer converted, and from there start testing parts of the funnel. I guess I think this helps because it keeps variables to a minimum and requires less budget to see if something works.
If I started with 5 creatives, 3 landers, 3 offers. There's too many combinations (imo) and since Native is expensive I'd need to spend a whole lot just to see if an offer works.
Also, I never test multiple things at the same time, to keep all other variables minimal.

Today's budgets have been spent with 0 conversions..

Why do I think this has happened?
Just day to day fluctuations on small spend.. But I have also been using the best image to test multiple headlines but I'm not sure that's the best approach.

I have just checked all my data and 1 headline has 80% of the conversions since starting. So I think that's good enough to go with.

Now I have just added 8 new images for that best headline, hopefully they're approved for tomorrow.

All part of the learning I guess!
I had a fortune cookie earlier, and damn it's so true...

Exactly my thoughts, rather than get lucky and see profits right now, I'd rather learn and understand HOW that is achieved on Native so I can use that knowledge for years on this type of traffic..

Ouch! Have you looked through your data to see if there were some specific widgets crushing your budget?
