Here is my follow along campaign for the RichPush content this month :)

🎯 Traffic Source: RichPush
πŸ”§ Tracking Tool: Voluum
βœ… Affiliate Network: PeerFly
πŸ‘ Type of Offer: Gambling
πŸ’° Offer Payout: I will be testing a few of the
gambling offers on PeerFly
πŸ† I believe this campaign will be successful because: Gambling has done well for me on push before. I haven't tried RichPush yet, but I'm optimistic.
πŸ” I am unsure about: Using the RichPush ad platform since this is my first try with it. I'm also not sure on how much volume they'll have in the GEOs I'm looking to use, but either way I'm excited to try.

FOLLOW ALONG UPDATES / STEPS

I will post my updates in replies below, but I will make a list and link to them here:
  1. Setting up a Traffic Source Template for RichPush
  2. Creating a Campaign on RichPush
  3. First Attempt at Optimizing
  4. Optimized Failure #1
Let me know if you have any questions!

Setting up a Traffic Source Template for RichPush

The first thing I will need to do is setup RichPush as a traffic source in my Voluum account. They do not already have a template in Voluum so I'll be using their macro list to create my own.

Here is a list of their Allowed Macros:

[SUB_LIST_ID] - returns a unique Subscriber list ID
[PUBLISHER_ID] - returns a unique ID of the publisher that can contain several websites
[SITE_ID] - returns a unique website ID
[SITE_SECTION_ID] - returns a unique ID of a website section, where subscribers were collected

[CLICK_ID] - returns a unique click ID (for conversion tracking)
[BID_PRICE] - returns winning price of the click

[CAMPAIGN_ID] - returns a unique campaign ID in our system
[CAMPAIGN_NAME] - returns a campaign name
[CREATIVE_ID] - returns a unique creative ID

[COUNTRY] - returns a country name
[COUNTRY_CODE] - returns a 3-letter country code
[REGION] - returns a region name
[CITY] - returns a city name

[OS] - returns an OS name and version
[OS_ONLY] - returns an OS name
[OS_VER] - returns an OS version
[USERAGENT] - returns a browser useragent string
[IP] - returns a user's IP
[USER_ID] - returns a unique ID of the visitor

[RANDOM_NUMBER] - ensures that a fresh call is made to the ad server every time the code is executed

Here is the template setup in my account. You can setup the RichPush postback if you want by using: http://rtb.adx1.com/log?action=conversion&key=[CLICK_ID]&price=REVENUE_IN_USD

[CLICK_ID] would be replaced with whatever external click variable your tracker uses and of course REVENUE_IN_USD should be replaced with the payout variable.

You can setup this same template with BeMob, RedTrack, or whatever tracking tool you like :)

Creating a Campaign on RichPush

Alright, having gone through the campaign creation process and seeing the optimization options, I am very impressed by what RichPush has to offer.

Setting up a campaign is fairly easy and straightforward if you've run a push notification campaign before, but here are a few things that stand out that I like:

Optimization Rules

I did not set any of these yet, but it looks like you can kind of set programatic optimization rules. Pretty awesome. I have not seen any other traffic source with this setup.

Source Sampling

I saw someone else mention this somewhere here in affLIFT when discussing new features RichPush has released and it's very nice. You can set specific frequency caps on specific segments of traffic (like Publisher ID).

RichPush also recommends a budget of more than $25 per campaign which is something I've mentioned a few times :)
Please note that we do not recommend setting less than 25$ daily budget. In case the daily budget is less than 25$/day we do not bear any responsibility for possible overspend issues.

Like most push notification traffic sources, they're strict on the size of your creatives. I recommend using Squoosh to resize and compress your creative images.

Pleased with what I'm seeing so far. We'll see how the campaign goes :D

Hi Luke,
I have questions:
1. I see RichPush recommends budget of more than $25 per campaign --> you mean daily?
2. If I may know, how much $ you invested for this campaign daily? So I can get the picture cause I'm also goin to run Gambling offer via Peerfly using Direct Linking.
Thanks!

Yes, that's a $25/day budget. You can pause anytime, but if you set it lower than $25, there's a chance you will spend at least that much anyway (because of how push notifications are delivered).

I'm spending ~$100/day on 1 campaign currently. The offer payout is just over $100, so this seems like a good budget.

The traffic since my first 2 conversions basically has me back at breakeven now, but I have a lot of data to work with. I'm going to do a post on how I'm going to try to optimize the traffic to get it profitable tomorrow morning or Sunday morning.

Thanks for the info Luke!

What is your cpc? Or if you dont want to say then what cpc do your normally start a push ad with.

Luke, any idea why Peerfly is not showing any gambling offers with a payout near or above $100?

Hi Luke, what type of traffic method are push notifications (so I can choose the right offers in Peerfly)?

You can see the CPC (CPV) in my stats screenshot: $0.13

Because I'm getting a higher rate than normal on this offer :)

First Attempt at Optimizing

Okay, let's take a look at my data so far (only ran this for 2 days so far):

As you can see, I was off to a great start and then the next day, things didn't go as well. I've lost about $40, but that's okay, let's dig into the data.

Traffic Source Data

It seems the RichPush traffic source data is broken down by:
  • Subscriber List (SUB)
  • Publishers (PUB)
  • Sites (SITE)
A subscriber list will have many publishers. A publisher can have many sites. In this case, I probably want to start by looking at the SUBs I have traffic from.

You can see the first subscriber list I bought traffic from (at the top of the list) is massively profitable.
The second listed is nearly profitable.
I've spent $60 on the one below that and not gotten a single conversion.

This is already pretty good data. I could try spending another $100 and focus on the one SUB (1387) that I'm profitable on so far. Let's dig a bit deeper though and look at the PUBs:

It should be pretty clear at a glance at this that I do not have enough data to do any optimizations based on it. The top PUB I received traffic from sent me 129 clicks and I got 0 conversions. I only spent $16 on that. The offer I am promoting pays over $100. It would be a mistake to initially stop receiving traffic from that PUB just because of $16 worth of data.

Just for fun, let's look at the SITE data:

Again, not enough data to make any big decisions here. If I want to optimize this campaign based on any sort of significant traffic source data, it has to be based on the SUBs.

My SUB data just shows that 1 SUB is profitable. The other one is close. But, in order to break this down, I'm going to just focus on 1387 for my next $100 in spend. We'll see if it can maintain a good conversion rate (and then I'll have more data on the particular PUBs that belong in 1387 and I can try to optimize based on that data).

I removed all SUBs except 1387.

Visitor Data

I've done my optimization now based on the traffic source data. What about visitor data? With push notification campaigns, there's not usually much visitor data you can optimize on because of the nature of push notification campaigns.

Typically, you'd optimize based on visitor data like:
  • Device (Desktop/Phone/Tablet)
  • OS
  • Browser
  • ISP
My campaign for this follow along is targeting desktop only so there's no optimizations for device. Over 90% of the traffic I'm receiving is Windows (including my 2 conversions) so there's really no point in optimizing OS either. The same goes for browser.

I do see some interesting ISP data, but there's not really enough data to optimize off of and since I already am working on the SUB optimization, I don't want to change too much with my campaign.

Country Data

I've seen people complaining about some push notification traffic sources not being able to accurately send traffic from the selected countries. This campaign is a desktop campaign so it naturally is going to be more accurate than a mobile campaign, but here is the country data:

Most of my traffic is from the UK, which is what I am targeting so that's good :)

I've setup my optimization rule and decreased my bid to $0.11, which is the new suggestion from RichPush. Fingers crossed we see some conversions in the next $100 spend πŸ‘

Optimized Failure #1

Today's optimized traffic did not perform as well as I'd hoped. Was hoping for at least a conversion, but it didn't happen:

I am going to look into testing a lander and split testing 2 offers potentially for this campaign starting tomorrow :)
