For a while now I have wanted to share how you can track banner ads hosted on a 3rd party website.
So, the question we came across was:
- User had banner ad on a third-party website (just a picture with a link to the offer that is promoted)
- The issue: no impressions are tracked.
- Question: what is the easiest way to track impressions for the Banner ad?
To solve this kind of problem, in CPV Lab we recommended the following approach:
- setup a simple “Landing Page + Offer” campaign and in it to have the banner image URL as the landing page (This is the trick).
- then the banner URL included in the third-party website would be the Campaign URL provided by the tracker, so this means that an impression will be counted each time the banner is loaded.
- next, you will have a tracking link as the link for the banner, so each click on the banner will be an actual click in your campaign.
And this option will allow you to track many metrics from your visitors (GEO data, devices, ISP etc) and see the performance for all of them.
