The Concept of Zeropark

So I initially learned about Zeropark (and Voluum) from an interview on Mixergy and found the concept extremely interesting but really wondered if it worked - Now seeing the posts from Luke in the forum it seems that you can drive success from Zeropark. Coming from a more "Traditional" digital marketing background I still wonder how as it seems that it is the 100% definition of irrelevant traffic - is it purely a volume vs driving cost down
