This caught my eye on Reddit. Someone got fed up with paying for Photoshop and built their own alternative. It's called Photon Studio, and it's free.
The funny part is that the developer says he spent over $2,000 building it so he could cancel his Adobe subscription. Not sure the accountant would approve, but the rest of us seem to have done alright out of it
His latest post says it's already crossed 20,000 users. He's been building it with AI coding tools and is in the comments taking feedback and promising fixes. Quite something to come across when you only wanted a cheaper way to edit a few images.
It runs on Windows 11, Mac and Linux, works offline and supports PSD files, layers and masks. Even the background removal runs on your own machine, according to the site.
Could be useful for anyone making banners, tweaking creatives or editing images for landers who doesn't fancy another subscription. Not calling it a complete Photoshop replacement without trying it, but definitely one worth a look.
