Hey affLIFTers :)

I'm pretty busy with WHAT THE AFF these days but I do try to take the time and share some of the stuff I learn from it.

A few months ago I spoke at the India Affiliate Summit and the topic I went into was deliverability and how to get better open rates... Or at least how we do it for our daily newsletter.

Some things are self-explanatory and for some there could be questions so fire away in the replies. For the most part, it's not a secret how we create every newsletter so I'm comfortable opening up with all sorts of tips we've discovered when it comes to certain inboxes, certain topics, creating content etc.

Just keep in mind that what I know has to do with getting good engagement (and thus deliverability) when doing something completely white hat and using an ESP. I have no idea how about buying lists, churning and burning or setting up your own email delivery infrastructure so you don't get flagged, etc.

While the topic we deal with is our own affiliate industry, this model can certainly work for all sorts of verticals and can complement a blog very well for example.

When I use SES, I always setup DKIM keys.

Basically that.

I simplified it in my speech but used the more "impressive" graphic, haha. It's basically telling the email servers that you are the rightful owner of the domain. That helps deliverability and also avoids issues with others trying to use your domain for other purposes.

Because if you go into an ESP, you can just say you send email from whatever domain, without this proof of ownership.

That's the "plain English" explanation, the tech details are better explained in the article from @dood I was shocked to see that something like aWeber doesn't have clear and simple instructions to authenticate with DKIM, lol.

Okay, I believe I set this up with Mailgun/Cloudflare a long time ago, but I am going to double check 👍
