I had been talking about starting a Follow Along for a few weeks now, and so thanks to @Luke for putting his money where my mouth is... (that just sounds wrong - but I will leave it in o_O ) this follow along is my submission for his awesomely generous $1,000 Follow Along Contest!

Background: I have only ever ran Facebook Ads & Solo Ads traffic in the past, with very limited success. So for this Follow Along I am choosing to get my feet wet using the BING ADS search engine + PeerFly + SearchWrench combination.

Tools & Resources Used
  • Traffic: Bing Ads
  • Offers Network: PeerFly (PeerFly Offers)
  • Tracker: SearchWrench
  • Research: UberSuggest, Trademarkia, Bing Ads Intelligence Tool

Offer Selected: ScentBird Women (Payout: $11 -- CR: 33% -- EPC: $3.67 -- Type: Sale)

Keyword Research

Since I am new to PAID SEARCH ENGINE traffic, I though I would blend a little of my SEO Skills with this campaign just to see if it can work here too. I needed to generate a list of "Seed Keywords" to start my research and since this is a SALE Offer I figured what better place to start than with the offer host. So I went over to Trademarkia and searched for ScentBird and they had 3 trademarks filed... which from there I pulled the following 3 "Seed Keywords" to start my research:
  • cosmetics
  • fragrances
  • skincare
I then went into UberSuggest and created a .csv file for each of the above keywords with the only filter that the minimum search volume had to be more than 1,000 searches. Then I took those 3 .csv files and ran the Bing Ads Intelligence plugin on them.

Action Items

So this is as far as I am at this point, and will be creating my "iFrame Links" in SearchWrench and creating my first ads which I will be updating you all with on my next post. As you follow along on this journey, I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that I may be overlooking... thanks in advance!

Sounds like a good setup. I'm excited you're using SearchWrench and I'm hoping you see some ScentBird conversions roll in early! :)

hi drew,
why do u create iframe links ,whats the purpose ?

Ok, so this campaign is officially live!

First off, the issue with the Bing Ads Intelligence tool was related to my personal & business Microsoft account using the same email account... once I switched my Bing Ads Account to use a different Microsoft account email, and select "Sign In With Microsoft Account" inside the tool I was able to get in and get started.

Using the following filters (Clicks >199, CTR >1%, CPC <$0.75) I was able to generate a list of 14 [exact] match keywords to use for this initial test

[diffuser]
[diffusers]
[discount perfume]
[eau de parfum]
[fragrance]
[fragrance shop]
[fragrances]
[free makeup]
[makeup samples]
[parfum]
[parfume]
[perfume samples]
[perfumery]
[perfumes]

I then created 3 separate ads that I am testing with a CPC Bid of: $0.70 & Daily Bid = $10 (United States Only)... The only thing I did not like about this is the External URL is pretty ugly and will probably hurt my click through (@Luke custom domains in SearchWrench would fix this right?)

As you can see above, I created a separate SearchWrench Link for each Ad (not sure if this is needed?) and used the following settings for my links inside PeerFly

Again, as this is my first Bing Ads campaign I am running this as an open book, so if there is anything you want to know... please ask away!

As always, if there is anything you see that I am not doing I appreciate as thrive on constructive criticism... so please let me know

Hope to have some data in the next couple of days to share with you all... until then have an uplifting day!

Hi Drew,

This will be a very interesting follow along and I wish you the best of luck! You are being very open about what you are doing and this thread promises to be a great resource. 👍

@Luke

Is there any chance that we will be able to use custom domains in the future? What about SSL?

Ok, here are the results after Day 1
- Conversions: 0
- Total Clicks: (13 - Bing & PeerFly) (24 - Search Wrench)
- Total Spent: $6.93
- Avg CPC: $0.53
- Impressions: 1,176

I think I am going to pause all the keywords that have not had a click yet (not sure if this is the best way to optimize after day 1 or not?)

Optimization Update - So I took the 3 keywords that had clicks from my base campaign and created new ad groups (one keyword per group)... each with 2 hyper targeted ads using the same keyword the group is targeted for.
  • Perfumes (Exact, Phrase, and Broad)
  • Fragrance (Exact, Phrase, and Broad)
  • Eau De Parfum (Exact, Phrase, and Broad)
I used the keyword in the title, ad copy, and url path to try and get the best "quality scores"

I am still keeping the Max CPC at $0.70 (set from base campaign) and the Campaign budget at $10 / day... I will increase as needed for scale from this point on.

I will let these run for a while, and then update you all on some statistics and hopefully some Conversions!(y)

Ok, so here is a status update with my first conversion! Unfortunately, SearchWrench did not track the conversion (working with @Luke on hopefully getting data) so I am not sure which keyword / ad the conversion came from.

I have spent the amount that I wanted to spend on this campaign to test the offer and search wrench... so next, I want to try this offer using bemob and a landing page to see if the same ads / keywords can improve performance.

Now I have to figure out how to get an iFrame Landing page to work using Bemob and BING Ads Compliant... any advice on how this can be achieved? I have the iFrame landing page done no problem, but it's the URL congruency (matching) per Bing Ads policy that I am having trouble understanding.

How do I still use bemob tracking with a iFrame landing page?

Great follow along @Drew , I love how you are putting lot of detailed insights about your campaign. @Luke - Can you help @Drew with the next steps for this campaign ? Excited and Awaiting.

Hi Drew, great to see you've got a conversion! Hope they keep coming in!

A word of caution about using BeMob. They have a problem at the moment that they are working on.

Yeah, I'm going to work on getting SSL added and see how we could do custom domains. I haven't had much time to work on SearchWrench over the past few weeks.

BTW, congrats on getting your first conversion on this campaign, @Drew :)

Thanks @Luke, that will be great. I have found that my default browsers (Edge and Internet Explorer) on my Windows 10 laptop sometimes will not load a https page in the iframe. I presume this is because the iframe is embedded in a http page. Strangely enough, other browsers I have tried on other devices (Safari and Chrome on iPad) don't have the same issue.

Yeah, definitely seems to be hit or miss on that issue based on browser, but I should be able to add https to all the domains 👍

Thanks to everyone for your feedback and help so far!

I have decided that for this Follow Along I am going to stay with Search Wrench, and learn Bemob with a different traffic source. I was wasting too much time trying to overcome platform issues and staying within Bing's TOS.

Shoutout to @Luke for being able to isolate the issue as to why my conversion did not show up inside of Search Wrench... it was because my postback url was formatted incorrectly. The correct postback URL format that should be entered into the offer on PeerFly Is:

Code:
https://www.searchwrench.com/postback/Your-ID#/?c=%subid1%&e=%commission%

So I have used the data from the Search Wrench "Optimize" tab to reboot this campaign... I have decreased the bid on mobile by 70% to try and get more desktop clicks as that is where my conversion came from and have removed the majority of the syndicated ad groups.

Hope to have some more data for you guys in a few days... and hopefully some more conversions o_O:cautious:

Drew, with only one conversion, reducing the bids for mobile might not be the best way forward. You're getting the majority of the clicks from mobile and there's no reason why people would buy from their desktop rather than their cell phone unless the mobile version of the website or your ad makes it difficult to navigate/is unappealing. I would look at the CTR of each keyword and perhaps increase the bid on those keywords that have the higher CTR. What position are your ads/keywords and what is the quality score? These factors should also influence your bidding. Just my two cents.
