I always wanted to know how bot detection actually works. Not "AdScore says 62% invalid", but why. What is a bot, really? What kinds exist? How do they make money? And what does a bot do differently from a real person on my landing page?
If you've read my AdScore guide, you know I run AdScore on pretty much everything. It is great at telling you that a visit is a bot. It doesn't tell you why.
So, with a little help from AI, I built my own set of 50 bot tests, put them on a landing page, and bought real traffic. Every visit also ran AdScore on the same page, so for every test I can show how often it agrees with AdScore.
The guide is split into 5 posts, 10 tests each. For every test I explain what it checks, why it works (or doesn't), what the numbers say, and give you the code so you can try it on your own lander.

The setup
- Traffic: various traffic sources (popunder, push and smartlink), several GEOs
- Visits: 119,819 in total, 55,634
