Africa's mVAS market is the last big DCB opportunity that hasn't been squeezed — but only if you stop treating it as one market. Seven GEOs are worth your attention right now: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, DR Congo and Algeria. They share a payment rail and almost nothing else.
The affiliates losing money here are the ones porting a Nigeria funnel onto Algeria and wondering why CR collapsed. Here’s an overview of how you should promote

Why direct carrier billing, and not cards?
Global Findex 2025 puts median adult account ownership across 35 surveyed Sub-Saharan African countries at 56%, with 20% of adults relying only on mobile money — no bank, no card.
As they come online, the first digital product most of them pay for is a subscription billed to airtime (a.k.a. Prepaid balance or prepaid credits). That's not a trend; that's a decade of demand.
If you're testing cold, here's the shape of it:
Budget: $100–300
GEO: Choose ONE, not run across three
Offer: Take a CPA mVAS offer on a 2-click flow for higher payouts, 1 click-flow for faster conversions..

These are the mVAS offers running across the seven GEOs above that are currently converting on live traffic. All with the flow type and carrier coverage called out so you can match them to the test plan rather than guess:

The affiliates losing money here are the ones porting a Nigeria funnel onto Algeria and wondering why CR collapsed. Here’s an overview of how you should promote
- Nigeria is the volume play — 188m active mobile subscriptions as of April 2026, but 35.93% of connections are still 2G, so page weight is a direct CR lever.
- Kenya gives you the cleanest traffic outside SA (63.7% smartphone share, 15.1 GB average monthly data)
- Ghana is 73% MTN on voice, meaning one integration covers most of the market — and one operator policy change can wipe out your quarter.
- Tanzania is growing fastest (+4.51% subscriptions in a single quarter) with a four-way operator split that keeps auction prices low.
- South Africa pays the most and costs the most, under the region’s strictest compliance regime.
- DRC runs French at 33% mobile internet penetration: thin competition, high variance.
- Algeria runs Arabic and French at 76.9% internet penetration across a three-operator market that behaves nothing like Sub-Saharan Africa.

- Confirm the flow type with your AM or check the offer restrictions before you build a creative library around something that gets pulled. Consent rules are tightening everywhere.
- Run 3–4 single-message angles in the right language. English for NG/GH/KE/ZA, English and French for TZ/KE, French for CD, Arabic and French for DZ. A rough creative in the correct language will beat a polished one in the wrong one every time.
- Read data on day 3, not day 1. Optimize once data is available, not every few hours. Use auto-optimization if possible, since high traffic at low cost can easily ruin your budget
