How a Single GSB Flag Cost Me $XXXX a Day

For years, I’ve been running affiliate offers, and like most affiliates, I would occasionally run into issues where a domain got flagged or triggered an antivirus alert.


Usually, I handled it reactively: rotating domains when I noticed the issue or when an affiliate network eventually informed me, sometimes hours or days later.


Recently, however, things escalated fast.


I received multiple Google Safe Browsing (GSB) flags in a short period of time. The result was an immediate ban from my largest traffic source and warning notices from others. This had a direct and serious impact on my business, costing me $XXXX per day.


I understand that compliance has become stricter lately, but what really frustrated me was the lack of any warning. Even after explicitly asking networks to notify me as soon as they detected an issue, so I could switch domains immediately, they were unwilling or unable to do so.


At that point, it became clear that relying on third parties was no longer an option.


So we decided to solve the problem ourselves.
