I mentioned in my $2k/month Facebook Page follow along update this week that I am testing out Google AI Studio for building projects with AI. I've spent a good amount of time now testing it out so I thought you guys/gals might appreciate my thoughts:
1. Free is awesome. Claude Code and Lovable (the two other AI I have used so far) are great but can be expensive. The fact that Google is letting us use AI Studio for free is really cool. You can use it for a few hours before you hit any sort of usage timeout as well. Once you hit the free usage timeout, you can add your API key and continue to use it at a low cost.
2. AI Studio is slower than Claude (and Lovable). I like the interface Google has made for AI Studio but it seems that it's a bit slower than using Claude or Lovable. I am not sure why. It's likely something they'll improve on.
3. The results from AI Studio were very good. The little things I have been working on have been correct.
4. Google AI Studio has no backend functionality like a database. Lovable does and you create your own with Claude Code.
5. Gemini is essentially built into Google AI Studio which makes sense and is very easy to use.
6. You can deploy your project from Google AI Studio (similar to Lovable).
Overall, if you are looking for a free option to test out vibe coding or create a project for yourself, you should try AI Studio. I'm optimistic Google will keep improving this and not just kill it off. I'm sure they're collecting some interesting AI data from it and that's why it's free.
