In the world of traffic arbitrage, there's always room for experiments and new strategies. In this case study, I’ll share my approach: I decided to test the VPN vertical using popunder traffic in the US market. This decision was based on spy service analysis, where I noticed that the US GEO was being heavily targeted and showing good results.

Choosing the Affiliate Program and Offers

I chose the OfferGate affiliate network because they have been in the market for a long time, and I previously had success running cleaners through them. After discussing available offers with the manager, we selected the following: Rubicks CPI iOS US, Private, and Sensor CPI. These offers were fresh, had not yet exhausted their potential, and, according to the manager, were showing good conversion rates. I decided to split test all three offers and use Clickadu, a well-established pop traffic network.

Setting Up the Advertising Campaign

For the advertising campaign setup, I kept the process simple and chose a broad audience: mobile devices on iOS and US GEO. I set the initial bid slightly above the minimum and selected OS versions from 15 and above, as, based on experience, lower versions converted poorly and degraded the overall traffic quality.

Choosing Landing Pages and Results

For landing pages, I selected all available options from the offer cards. Over the course of just under 14 days, the results were as follows:
  • One landing page stood out and I increased its rotation share.
  • The second offer also performed well but had to be stopped on the 8th day due to reaching its cap.
  • The first offer is still active and showing good results, allowing me to scale it across other networks.

Traffic Quality and Optimization

The affiliate network and the advertiser had no complaints about the traffic quality, so my daily cap for this offer was increased.

Regarding optimization, I actively blocked zones that did not deliver desired results and created a whitelist. After the third day of running the campaign, I kept a single whitelist campaign to maximize profit in a short period.

Once the quality was approved and the cap increased, I began scaling this setup within the network and using similar sources to increase volume.

Case Study Conclusion

In conclusion, don’t hesitate to explore new verticals and GEOs, and actively communicate with your affiliate managers. They should become your best friends and advise you on fresh and high-performing offers. Even based on my example, choosing the right partners can yield a substantial income in a short period. For me, the new utility setup with OfferGate and traffic from Clickadu brought in a profit of just over $400 in just under 14 days.
