What Are AI Overviews?

The feature was first announced at the Google I/O conference in May 2023 and launched in the U.S. one year later. By August 2024, it had expanded to several additional countries including the UK, India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil. As of April 2025, AI Overviews are live in over 100 regions worldwide. To enhance quality and contextual relevance, Google integrated its Gemini 2.0 model to handle more complex user queries.
